BAGUIO CITY – The "bayanihan spirit" is very much alive and kicking in the Summer Capital.

This was proclaimed by Baguio Schools District Supt. Federico Martin in Monday's flag-raising ceremonies at City Hall before local officials and employees headed by Vice-Mayor Edison Bilog.

He announced that several city schools won first place in the 2017 Regional Brigada Eskwela Best Implementing Schools Awards including Crystal Cave Elementary School under School head Leonila Catungal in the Elementary level, medium category; Baguio Central School under School head Esther Litilit in the Elementary level, mega category;

Happy Hollow National High School under School head Maryjane Malihod in the Secondary level, small category; Roxas National High School under School head Jayrerose Guevara in the Secondary level, medium category; and Baguio City National High School under School head Romulo Flora in the Secondary level, mega category.

Martin revealed that in this year's Regional Search for Most Eco-Friendly Schools, Baguio Central School under School head Esther Litilit and Eco-friendly coordinator Reva Duldulao won first place in the Elementary level while Pinsao National High School under School head Ma. Lourdes Dumpayan and Eco-friendly coordinator Lilia Mayaput also garnered first place in the Secondary level.

A special award was won by Lindawan Elementary School under School head Maribeth Cuaresma and Eco-friendly coordinator Jocelyn Coldeg.

The BCNHS-Special Program for the Arts was also declared champion of the NAMCYA Youth Rondalla Northern Luzon Qualifiers held last Nov. 21 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Martin stressed that all these achievements were the result of a strategic alliance between the Department of Education and various stakeholders from the government and private sectors.

"We firmly believe that education is too important that it cannot be left to educators alone," he said.-gaby keith
