64th Mine Safety week declared

BAGUIO CITY – With the theme, "Responsible Mining...in the Hearts and Minds of Filipinos," November 21 to 24 was declared in a city council resolution as the 64th annual national mine safety and environment conference week.

The number coding scheme is also suspended for delegates and their families during said dates, Resolution 351, series of 2017 states.

Best practices in responsible mining or mineral resources development of the country, through occupational health and safety, sound environment management and social contract though community partnership with local and national stakeholders are showcased in the four-day event.

In the forefront of activities are the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) members; mining companies, quarries, cement plants, suppliers, service contractors, professional organizations and government agencies.

As in the past years, activities may include symposia on the mineral industry, explorations, quarrying surface and underground mining, and mineral processing; exhibits, sports competition, mine safety field demonstration competition and awards.

Michael Lawana authored the measure, with report and recommendation of the committee on tourism, special events, parks and playground. – juliegfianza
