First Parents Congress held in city

BAGUIO CITY – the City government in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) conducted a two-day seminar on basic parenting tips here.

The seminar was held at the Dominican Heritage and Nature Park, the newly renovated building owned and managed by the city government which has been idle for years.

U.S. ambassador, mayor mark end of war

The rite was two days late but the event it recalled was too significant to let pass, at least for United States Ambassador Harry Thomas Jr. and Baguio Mayor Mauricio Domogan.

After all, commemorating that event in the history of war and peace jibes with the theme for the observance of the 103rd founding anniversary of this city built by the Americans: "Fostering a Sense of History, Community and Continuity".

City to receive P85M peza share

BAGUIO CITY – The city government stands to receive its long awaited tax share from the operation of the Baguio City Economic Processing Zone (BCEPZ) operations after Dept. of Budget Management (DBM) Secretary Florencio Abad ordered the release of P85 million to be charged from the 2012 General Appropriations Act.

Mayor’s marching order to new police chief: tackle rob cases

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan directed newly installed city police chief Jesus Cambay to curb the incidence of crimes against property which have risen to an alarming rate in the past year.

The mayor conferred with the new police chief and the commanders of the various police stations to iron out strategies to maintain peace and order in the city.

Council backs call to oppose bgh privatization; mayor asks public to also consider benefits

BAGUIO CITY – The city council last Monday joined the call to oppose the proposed privatization of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) as per House Bill 6069 by Rep. Anthony Rolando Golez and Senate Bill 3130 by Sen. Franklin Drilon.

The body approved a resolution after hearing the position of BGHMC medical director Dr. Manuel Factora during a legislative inquiry where the statement of opposition of the Community Health Education, Services and Training in the Cordillera Region (Chestcore) was also considered.

Vermicomposting training held

BAGUIO CITY – A training on vermicomposting for pig manure was held last August 31 in Honeymoon-Holyghost Barangay.

Sponsored by the Wastewater, Water and Ambient Air Management Division of the City Environment and Parks Management Office, Barangays Honeymoon-Holyghost, Holyghost Extension, Holyghost Proper and Benguet Electric Cooperative, the training aims to provide participants knowledge on useful ways to handle pig manure and prevent them from disposing these wastes in waterways.

People’s Legislative Congress eyed in city

BAGUIO CITY – the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) is planning to hold the first 'People's Legislative Congress' in this mountain resort.

Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda who is also the president of PCL-Baguio said the planned activity is set on September 25, 2012 at the Baguio Convention Center which will start at exactly 1 'oclock in the afternoon.

Farinas meets BCPO chiefs, issues orders

BAGUIO CITY - Vice Mayor Daniel Farinas this week called on the different Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Station Commanders here for a meeting.

Acting as City Mayor as per Administrative Order No. 104 series of 2012, Farinas instructed the chiefs to prioritize the peace and order situation in the city.

US Ambassador Harry K Thomas and Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan led the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) in the ribbon cutting of the Hotel and Restaurant weekend fest last Thursday at the SM City Baguio with the largest Wedding Cake measuring at least 24 feet by 24 feet and at least 28 feet high at the background.

Consultations urged before project implementation in barangays

BAGUIO CITY – The city council on Monday urged concerned agencies and project contractors here to conduct honest-to-goodness consultations and proper coordination with the barangay officials before the implementation of projects in the localities.

The body took the cudgels for barangay officials who lamented this concern during the inquiry conducted by the city council.
