“Accidental heroes” find closure in time- honored ritual

The pony-for-hire tenders knew their responsibility to the victims of the plane crash last April 10 couldn’t end with their daring rescue of the occupants trapped in the burning aircraft that slammed into a pine patch of Camp John Hay.

Mostly Ibalois, the culture-bound pony boys found closure at noon last Tuesday through the “daw-es”, a traditional Igorot ritual performed for the speedy recovery of the four injured passengers and the repose of two others who died in the accident.

Sports: barangay workers set cock-derby-for-a-cause

Grassroots workers, mostly barangay captains wearing hats as volunteer community
workers, have set a three-cock derby on April 20 at the Tabora Sports Club to
raise funds for their environmental programs.

The derby offers a guaranteed prize of P150,000. Pot money is pegged at P4,400
and minimum bet at P3,300, according to promoters Mike Arnaiz, Badong
Villanueva, Manny Flores, Edu de Guzman, JP Ponce and Mike Lawana.

City to look into bibak lot anew

BAGUIO CITY – The city government will investigate anew the status of the land and structures located along Harrison Road here and which was originally intended as dormitory for students from the Cordillera region.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan Wednesday said he will coordinate with the Regional Development Council (RDC) which took over the functions of the Cordillera Regional Assembly (CRA) and to which the property has now been turned over and with other concerned groups to determine the present condition of the lot and the structures.

World Boxing Organization(WBO) oriental bantamweight champion Dayer Gabutan retained his crown when he knocked down Meechai Kiatpracha in the third round of the scheduled 12 rounds of boxing at the jampacked La Trinidad Municipal Gym.

City working on reconciling conflicting laws on land disposition

BAGUIO CITY – The city government is working on reconciling conflicting laws relative to the disposition of alienable lots in the city.

The mayor last week convened a committee earlier requested by the city council to review, study and recommend actions on the developments surrounding Republic Act No. 10023, a new law that authorizes the issuance of free patents to residential lands.

City gears up for summer frolics

BAGUIO CITY – The city government set the ball rolling for this year’s “Summer Vacation (SUMVAC) in Baguio,” the city’s annual calendar of summer activities for residents and tourists expected anew to throng to the country’s summer capital anew.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan last week reorganized the working committees for the SUMVAC to begin ground preparations for the summer offering.
